 A Time for Personal Transformation

                       March, 2008

Dear Parents/Guardians:

In the Old Testament Book of Ecclesiastes there is a phrase which many of us have heard or read. "There is a season (a time) for everything... under heaven." As Christians and Catholics we are well into the season of Lent and an opportunity for our personal transformation. Defined as a marked change in one's appearance, transformation is a change in character and activity.

Our lives, at the pace and culture in which we are immersed leaves little opportunity to question ourselves about our personal need for transformation. The gospel reading for the second Sunday in Lent was about the transformation of Jesus (Matthew 17:2), "... and Jesus was transfigured before them." Was Jesus really transfigured before his followers, or did they finally recognize Jesus as an extraordinary, unique being?

Each one of us has been birthed at a particular time, in a particular place, and for a unique purpose. Personal transformation, taken seriously, offers us a challenge to review and renew our lifestyle and our life to be lived only once. Jesus modeled the ways in which we might see God or hear God speaking to us through the ordinary events of our day to day living. Jesus was not looking for fame, nor did he build monuments for himself. Instead, God became visible when Jesus reached out to lift up the poor, the weak, the lonely, and those shunned by society.

Lent is not an invitation to perfection. It is a reminder, however, that we are called by God "Be holy as I am holy". Being a quality human being is God's expectation, challenge, and our life's opportunity to be a Jesus model and a measure of what we are capable of accomplishing.

During this Lenten season, let us share our striving with one another to be the best we can offer.

Sincerely,

Sister Ann Therese

Principal
