Subject Summary

Our new Early Childhood Center at 251 Bishops Highway in Kingston, MA was built in 2007, and is home to our Kindergarten, Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Programs! The expanded Kindergarten program moved into the new center in August, 2007 and the new Preschool-Pre-Kindergarten Programs opened for the first time at Sacred Heart in the fall of 2008. Sacred Heart Early Childhood Center is part of Sacred Heart Elementary School, and is situated adjacent to the school on a beautiful campus. This new "state-of-the-art" early learning center provides a contemporary and welcoming environment for young children and families. The center includes four Kindergarten classrooms and two Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten classrooms, a multi-purposeOn the slide at the Early Childhood Center. cafetorium, and a fully-enclosed playground.

Sacred Heart is a Christian community organized to foster the spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth of each child. This is accomplished in the spirit of dedication, freedom, and love that is rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Sacred Heart Elementary School and Early Childhood Center are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Entrance Requirements
Kindergarten
A child entering Sacred Heart Kindergarten must be five years of age by August 31st. The following documents are required at the time of registration:

ü Copy of the birth certificate and baptismal certificate (if applicable)
ü Copy of the health record
ü Pre-school assessments (if applicable)
ü Registration form and fee  Working in Kindergarten.

Children entering kindergarten must also be immunized in compliance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health requirements before October of the kindergarten year. A kindergarten screening will be scheduled for the child before formal acceptance is given.

Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten
Children entering preschool must be 3 years old and children enrolling in pre-kindergarten must be 4 years old by August 31st. The following documents must be provided:

ü Registration form and fee
ü Birth certificate and Baptismal record (if applicable)
ü Copy of immunization record and health form
ü Copy of any applicable developmental assessments or evaluations

Curriculum
Kindergarten
The academic curriculum for our full-day Kindergarten is consistent with Kindergarten students practicing lessons on the computer.the Elementary School curriculum for grades one through six. Concepts and skills are introduced which are appropriate to each child's stage of development. These concepts reinforce the cognitive and developmental skills needed for the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth of each child. Taking into consideration each child's learning style, readiness skills are taught using various teaching techniques and providing hands-on activities as well as visual and auditory experiences.  The generalKindergarten students sorting and counting! curriculum includes readiness skills in the areas of Religion, Language Arts (which includes Phonetics, Reading, Writing, and Spelling), Math, Social Studies and Science. Children are engaged in small and large group activities, and attention is given to the development of fine and gross motor skills.

Kindergarten students participate in physical education, library and computer classes at the Elementary School.

Pre-Kindergarten
Circle time in pre-kindergartenThe curriculum for our half-day Pre-kindergarten classes for four year-olds offers a variety of experiences following a theme-based, seasonal pattern. Academic concepts are introduced in the program's Reading and Mathematics curriculum series. Topics are introduced through direct instruction, teacher-directed exploration, and independent exploration which allows students to learn through a variety of activities which focus on mastery of specific skills. Preschool
The curriculum for our half-day Preschool classes for three year-olds offers a variety of experiences following a theme-based, seasonal pattern.  The classroom is "centers" based with a daily routine and schedule that allows for circle-time, introductory reading and math concepts, prayers, story-telling, music, art, fine and gross The reading corner in preschool.motor skills, as well as play and social interaction.

Tuition
The annual Kindergarten tuition is the same as the Elementary School (gr. 1-6) and is paid in five increments during the school year.

The tuition for Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten may be paid monthly, semi-annually or annually, and varies based on the number of days per week that the child is enrolled.Drawing in pre-kindergarten
