Sacred Heart Elementary achieves NEASC Re-Accreditation

Read Principal's Letter

The New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) is the nation's oldest regional accrediting association. The mission of the NEASC is "the establishment and maintenance of high standards for all levels of education, from pre-K to the doctoral level".

The Commission on Independent Schools (CIS) is the commission of the NEASC responsible for the accreditation process for private independent schools, such as Sacred Heart Schools. Each commission uses the same protocols and materials for the accreditation process, assuring that the school is faithful to its mission, conducts it programs appropriately to meet its goals, and fulfills the Standards established by the Commission on Independent Schools. The goals of the accreditation program for private schools are school improvement and quality assurance.

An accredited school is "one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future".

Accreditation is a three step program including:

  • a self study carried out by the school

  • a four day visit carried out by a committee of educators assembled by the Commission

  • a follow up program supervised by the Commission

Sacred Heart Elementary School (K-6) has maintained accreditation since 1996, and was recently re-accredited through the NEASC, as a result of our year-long self-study and the evaluation visit that was conducted in early October.  Our formal notification and certificate were received after the Commission on Independent Schools voted at its meeting held on November 13-14, 2006 to grant Sacred Heart Elementary School continued accreditation by the NEASC.

Thank you for the participation of all who have been involved in this most important process and for helping us to continue our mission of faith and academic excellence at Sacred Heart Elementary School (K-6)!
