Enrollment,
Class Size, and Facility
With a total enrollment of 460 students in grades kindergarten through
six, Sacred Heart Elementary is able to offer small class sizes, ranging
from 20 to 25 students in each class. The ideal class sizes promote
quality, individualized instruction and learning. There are 3 classes for
each grade, as well as classroom space for art and music rooms, a computer
science room, library, and a gymnasium for physical education. A well
designed and newly constructed state-of-the-art playground, as well as
soccer fields, are available for outdoor activities.
Curriculum
Student success in learning is contingent upon multiple factors
that include, but are not limited to:
challenge, continuity in skill
building, diversity of approach, and balance. Challenge is the
encouragement to go beyond one’s perceived capabilities. Continuity in
skill building is defined by using sequentially developed and reinforced
programs in religion, language arts, math, science and social studies. A
diversity of approach is achieved through the interweaving of contemporary and traditional methodologies in an effort to meet individual needs. These
include basic skill mastery, large and small group instruction, hands-on
activities, cooperative learning groups, and the use of technology to
remediate, reinforce, and challenge. Creative, critical and logical
thinking, writing and problem solving are continually encouraged. An
automated library, computer and science labs are available to students.
Art, music, physical education and spiritual
development serve to balance
a holistic educational design.
Student
Assessment
Report cards are distributed three times yearly. Progress
Reports and Warning Notices are distributed midway through each marking
period. Student grades are based on class participation, group
interaction, independent class work, homework and testing. Standardized
testing is conducted annually in Grades 1-6 to assess skill
mastery.
